Teasing is a form of bullying that most children are likely to experience at some time during their schooling. Fortunately for some it has little impact as they are quite resilient and able to cope with it and from this experience they learn to develop various skills that will assist them in dealing with life’s many challenges.
However, when this teasing becomes repetitive, physical or from another child who is exerting power over others – it becomes bullying and should not be tolerated. Unfortunately, today bullying is at an all time high, particularly with the accessibility of the internet.
Counselling can help a child to understand the behaviour of bullies and learn practical strategies to deal with bullying. Counselling can also teach the child conflict resolution skills and help build resilience by empowering them to become more assertive and confident.
